Boxing – America's Oldest Organized Professional Sport

The neighborhood that I grew up in (West Baltimore), was known for frequent street fights, so boxing was a means for me to channel aggression and frustration in a more controlled manner. It wasn’t long before I would rather go to the gym than to hang out with my school buddies, because their response was that they could think of a lot better things to do besides get their brains beat out for kicks.

Never the less, boxing was my outlet that kept me out of a lot of trouble as a young kid, and as time moved on I got better and better at it. Eventually, I would start to participate in the local amateur bouts, and then the state bouts. After winning the State Golden Gloves twice, for some reason, shortly after that I started loosing my commitment and love I had for the sport previously. Unlike team sports, with boxing you have to 100% dedicated each time you step into the ring, or you could get seriously and permanently hurt.

I’m sure everyone realizes how important physical conditioning is in the sport of boxing, but few people actually mention how critical the mental aspect of boxing is. If you lose your focus on desire for the sport of boxing, it’s time to hang the gloves up. There’s nothing better than hearing the crowds observers expressing there excitement during very heated exchange during the fight.

I guess that’s something I all ways enjoyed, even when I was a kid getting into street fights in the old neighborhood, spectators use to gather around, some use instigate, and some use to place bets. The good thing was that, never hardly any problems with deadly weapons. Win, draw or lose, you fought until the best man won, the irony was, that some of my most lasting friendships were from people I previous fought. Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.
